Impact requires relationships, not just transactions.

Our Investment Process: step by step

We're here to back bold ideas with purpose at their core. Whether you're early in your journey or already scaling, you can reach out anytime by completing the contact form or email us at kiaora@soul.capital.

1. Send Us Your Story

Share your pitch deck, business plan, or other materials that give us a clear sense of your kaupapa. The more context you give, the easier it is to see if we’re the right fit for each other. Don’t shy away from your impact aspirations or the commercial imperatives, they both matter.

As we’re currently deploying the Te Pae ki te Rangi fund, alignment to this mandate is important to highlight.

2. First Meeting

If there’s alignment, we’ll set up a time to have a kōrero. We start with understanding you and your ‘why’, because we invest in founders, not just forecasts. Understanding your values and vision helps us see how you’ll grow your impact over time.

In this first meeting, we’ll also explore:

  • The problem you and your team are trying to solve

  • Get to know you and your team

  • Your progress thus far

  • Why you believe your model will succeed

This is also an opportunity for you to get to know us as a team and a fund.

3. Due Diligence

If we proceed, you’ll present to our Investment Committee during preliminary due diligence. If they support moving forward, we’ll begin full due diligence.

As part of our mission to catalyse investment into impactful ventures, where we can share due diligence with others, we will. If you’ve secured a lead investor, we’ll aim to collaborate and reduce everyone’s workload.

4. Term Sheet

If we’re leading the investment, we’ll put forward a term sheet outlining the key terms and conditions of our investment. As impact investors, we will consider how to ensure the integrity of the impact of the business is protected, even as the context of the business may change.

5. Investment Approval, Management & Measurement

Once the Investment Committee approves the investment, we’ll get the lawyers involved, drafting documents and completing the transaction.

As impact investors, measuring and articulating your impact is very important to us. We’ll work with you to articulate and identify impact measures, if you haven’t done so already.
