Regen (acquired by CropX)

Regen developed technology to help New Zealand dairy farmers meet freshwater and nutrient-discharge regulations. Acquired by CropX in 2020, its tools are now embedded in an agronomic farm management platform with over 20,000 deployments across 70 countries.

Why We Invested

Aotearoa's dairy sector faces some of the most demanding freshwater and nutrient-discharge regulations in the world. Regen was built to help farmers meet them; developing technology and compliance expertise that made regulated farming more manageable and less wasteful.

In 2020, CropX acquired Regen. That acquisition scaled the original thesis with Regen's technology a core component of the CropX agronomic farm management platform, with over 20,000 deployments across 70 countries. What started as a compliance solution for New Zealand dairy is now improving soil health and conserving water across farming systems worldwide.

Awhi's investment continues to deliver impact at that scale.

Measuring What Matters

Problem:
Farming systems globally face mounting pressure to reduce environmental harm — nutrient discharge, water use, soil degradation — while remaining productive and financially viable.

What: Technology and compliance tools that help farmers manage soil health, water conservation, and nutrient discharge more precisely, now embedded within the CropX agronomic farm management platform.

Who: Farmers and farming operations operating within regulated environments, across dairy, arable, and other sectors.

How Much:
Scale: over 20,000 deployments across 70 countries.
Depth: measurable improvements in soil health and water conservation at farm level.
Duration: ongoing, embedded within farm management systems used daily.

Contribution:
Regen's founding expertise in freshwater and nutrient compliance gave CropX capabilities that didn't exist in the platform before the acquisition. That heritage underpins the environmental performance of every deployment.

Impact Risk:
Impact depends on farmers actively using the platform's recommendations rather than treating it as a compliance checkbox.

Impact Measures:
Number of active deployments. Measurable improvements in soil health and water use efficiency across CropX platform users.
